Firmographic vs. diagnostic targeting: early reply rate comparison
Across StudioUtexo's own early cold outreach, campaigns built on generic firmographic filters (industry + headcount) produced reply rates in the low single digits. Swapping to lists built around a specific, observable site condition — without changing the email copy — moved reply rates meaningfully higher within the following sends. We're continuing to log this campaign over campaign as volume grows, and will update the figures here as the sample size increases.
This is internal, first-party data from a single agency's outbound program, not a controlled study. Treat it as directional, not conclusive.
Engagement and inbox placement
Mailboxes sending to lower-relevance, higher-volume lists showed a visible dip in reputation metrics compared to periods of slower, more targeted sending on the same domains. This lines up with the broader industry understanding that inbox providers weight engagement signals (opens, replies, complaints) heavily in deliverability decisions, rather than volume alone.
Domain-level reputation data, not a published benchmark. Your results will vary by sending history, warm-up state, and list quality.
Database overlap across cold outreach platforms
Spot-checking exported contact lists from several popular cold outreach platforms against the same target segment (small web design and marketing agencies) showed significant overlap in the businesses returned. This isn't surprising given how much of the contact-data industry licenses from a small number of underlying providers, but it's rarely stated plainly by the platforms themselves.
Small manual sample, not exhaustive. We'd welcome a larger independent study on this if one exists.
